Text Box: Black History Month, the Gaddy Lecture, Care Team Ministry, and Lent may not have much in common except that each provides an exceptional opportunity and bridge among our congregations, and each is connected to this article.

Black History is featured throughout media and education during February. As providence would have it, about two weeks ago the Resource Center received a box of resources via the kindness of Curtis Jones, former pastor of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. This gift of timely books and videos expands our resources in African-American Ministry, Black History, and Reformed Presbyterian History. A full listing of these resources is linked to this issue of Tidings and to the Presbytery Website: AfricanAmerican Resources 2005.

The Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy - President of the Interfaith Alliance, Baptist minister, and author - will give a major address on religion in public life on Monday, March 7, at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary of Roland Park Presbyterian Church, 4801 Roland Avenue, Baltimore. Dr. Gaddy will speak on “Taking God into Public Life Today: Dangers and Opportunities”. Offering responses to Dr. Gaddy’s address will be the Rev. Kenneth Ironside, Chestnut Grove PC, and the Rev. William Hathaway, First of Annapolis. All are welcome.

Now is not too early to plan to attend and bring elders, deacons, and church leaders to an informational pre-Presbytery meeting for specifics about Presbyterian Care Team Ministry. Identical sessions will be held on April 28 at First of Frostburg and on June 23 at First of Howard County. No matter the size of your congregation, Care Team Ministry provides intentional and organized care bridging those who need care with those who want to give care. This is a great program that organizes a ministry in which most congregations are already involved. I encourage you to explore Care Team Ministry at one of these events.

During the days of preparation and reflection of Lent, I invite you to peruse resources from the Resource Center. A Lent Resource Listing is linked to this Tidings: Lent Resources. Please know that both Mary Ellen, Resource Center Librarian, and I are available via phone, email, and in person to help you with any questions or requests.

In the hope, peace, and love of Christ, Terry Martin-Minnich
