Text Box: The 2005 BIG EVENT registration brochures have been delivered, hot off the press! Small initial supplies have already been mailed to each church, and bunches more will be available at both the January 13 and the January 27 Presbytery Meetings. The entire brochure is downloadable from our website: http://baltimorepresbytery.com/documents/bigeventbrochure.pdf

Finding Jesus is our theme this year, and we’re explicating that idea in dozens of different ways. We’ve got an iconographer and an imam. We’ve got presenters from Sojourners and Bread for the World. We’ve lined up PCUSA reps and a translator from the American Bible Society. And we’ve scheduled Tom Hall (Baltimore Choral Arts Society) and Frances Gench (Peace, Unity, and Purity Task Force). Especially for educators…whether clergy or not…we’ve invited Fernando Cascante from UTS. Some of Baltimore Presbytery’s best are also on the program: George Fisher, Nancy Saarlas, Keith Paige, Roger Powers, Ed Richardson, Chris Leighton, Iris Tucker-Lloyd, Jack Sharp, LoisAnn Furgess-Oler, and the Hartmans from Harford County.

Our outstanding keynoter is Stephen Prothero, celebrated cultural analyst, professor of religion at Boston U, and author of American Jesus: How the Son of God Became a National Icon. You may have seen Prothero on NBC’s Today Show, heard him on NPR’s All Things Considered, read him in The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, or met him online at Salon.com or Slate.com.

For children in grades 1 through 5, we’ve contracted with Bev Bailey, author, musician, and certified CE, who will offer ideas and experiences in her morning program “Who Is Jesus? A Day Of Searching.” After lunch and recreation, children will swim and watch a movie. Middle-schoolers can register as assistants for the children’s program and enjoy the same activities.

Young people are strongly encouraged to attend the BIG EVENT, especially their own workshop in the afternoon, “Jesus in the Culture of Youth.” Terry Martin-Minnich is coaching the team.

Did we mention the Images of Jesus art exhibit? The puppet show? The Who Is Jesus home video? The Cokesbury Bookstore? They’re all part of the BIG EVENT!

Saturday, February 26 is the date. Woods Memorial Church is the place. Be there!

Yours in the faith, Julie
