Transforming
Transformation If
you had attended our recent staff meeting, you would have observed us kicking
the word “transformation” around like a soccer ball. It bounced
and rolled in this direction and that without reaching any particular goal. The
word “transformation” arrived in the church’s current
lexicon about 5 or 6 years ago with stunning brilliance, as if newly coined.
And not only brilliant, but ubiquitous at conferences and in books and
offices and sanctuaries. Suddenly, everything was subject to transformation:
Transformation Team Training, Congregational Transformation, Transformation
Pastors, the transformative Spirit, even a transformed logo! This great word
may be suffering a bit from over-usage! You
see “transformation” frequently used as a stand-in for
“change” …for example, switching from a traditional to a
contemporary worship service or modifying a committee structure. Personally,
I believe transformation is bigger and better than that. I
think “transformation” describes the powerful spiritual shift
that happens in us when we catch an unexpected glimpse of the hand of God at
work or hear an unspoken whisper of insight from the spirit of God. If we are
open to what we see or hear, we are helpless to resist. We cannot decide to
transform. We are transformed! To
God be all the glory. Julie |
