Paul calls upon us to build up the body of Christ. In this season of Stewardship this is just one more example of what it means to be a good steward. This Presbytery has entrusted to me the stewardship of this part of the Body of Christ. It is a calling I gladly accept and yet one I struggle with daily. And I know most of you share this understanding.
In the coming weeks I encourage you to keep Paul’s urging in mind. As we ponder the Peace, Unity and Purity of the Church, what to do with churches that find portions of the Book of Order too burdensome for them, and as we consider how to best support those who are not heterosexual – I encourage each of us to ask, “how will these actions build up the body of Christ?”
And then I would also ask us to ponder the words of the new president of Princeton who muses that there are at least three significant issues about which the church is essential silent: war, poverty and Islam.
All of these are questions that go the heart of the Presbytery of Baltimore’s identity. Who are we? And what is God calling us to be in this time and place. I invite you to join with me in praying for the blessings of God in this noble endeavor of ours – to truly be the body of Christ in this time and this place. Blessings, Peter Nord |
