Education News from the Presbytery

Spiritual Formation and its relationship to Christian Education is the subject for this month’s Educators Round Table (ERT) Meeting. Debra Barton-Donnelly will be leading us. Debra, the educator at Ashland Church, is a leader in spiritual formation. ERT will be this Thursday, April 14 from 12 noon through 2 pm in the Resource Center. Educators Round Table is an open forum for all leaders in the areas of education in the church. All are welcome; please RSVP to Alice McGee at the Presbytery by Thursday morning.

The most recent curriculum resources from our denomination, WE BELIEVE, continue to offer Presbyterian/Reformed congregations solid resources for education in the local church. Among their fine offerings for this summer is for the Vacation Bible School.  This summer’s materials continue the series introduced last summer, “Around the World in 5 Days.” With an emphasis on a daily Bible story and letters from PCUSA mission workers in each country, children, age 4 through Grade 5, travel via an “imaginary train ride” through Taiwan, Northern Ireland, Brazil, Zimbabwe and Nepal.  Through crafts, games and foods, children explore customs, cultures and the church in five countries. Last summer, the children in my congregation traveled “Around the World in 5 Days” and enjoyed every moment of it.  I especially enjoyed connecting members and friends of our congregation related to the five countries with our children to share stories and food. If you do not have a five-day Vacation Bible School, consider using these resources in a 5 or 10 week summer Sunday program. Around the World in 5 Days: Living as Forgiven Children of God is worth a look. The complete Guide, for only $39.95  is available from www.pcusa.org/marketplace or call 1 800 524-2612.  There is also a copy for your perusal in the Resource Center.

One annoying note concerning the WE BELIEVE new CONFIRMATION materials: these resources have still not arrived in the Resource Center! We do have sampler copies available at your request. I will let you know when the new resources arrive.

God’s blessings upon you. –Terry Martin-Minnich
