Fundraising and the Church
Part of a series
on Stewardship, Capital Campaigns & Planned Giving Many
churches conduct their stewardship programs the same way year after year
after year. Often, the annual
stewardship drive is nothing more than an anticipated plea for money. We may practice stewardship in the same way
because we’ve become complacent and our time is short. Perhaps it’s just easier to conduct the
same kind of fundraising with the same monetary expectation than to come up
with a new, innovative campaign that will expand your church’s goal for its annual
stewardship drive. Sometimes what we
need is inspiration and to take a look at what other churches are doing, how
they are running their annual stewardship drives and the techniques they use to
encourage congregations to support their churches. On Saturday, May
10th, 2008 the Presbytery of Baltimore will sponsor a Stewardship Workshop at First
Presbyterian Church of Howard County. Registration will begin at 9:30am
and the workshop session is scheduled from 10am to 2pm. This workshop is open to pastors, session
members, trustees and other committee members. The workshop’s morning plenary session will
focus on the Annual Stewardship Drive. During lunch we will discuss Planned Giving and review a video on
Stewardship. Later in the afternoon, we
will breakout into groups to discuss techniques to improve your church’s Capital Campaign and Stewardship Program. As
we get a little closer to May 10th, Tidings will highlight the three presenters in its weekly
editions – offering an in-depth look at the successes, challenges and
obstacles they encountered while developing effective fundraising programs
for their churches. The presenters
will offer unique perspectives on how to conduct a successful Annual Stewardship
Drive, Capital Campaign or Planned Giving Program. Their ideas are bound to
make participants rethink their church’s Stewardship programs and develop
more effective fundraising campaigns. Stay
tuned!!
