Breaking Free to Serve

I have had the humbling opportunity in the past month to visit many of our local partners in mission.  From Western Maryland to Baltimore City to Parkton, I have been witness to kindness, compassion and faith on levels that I’ve never experienced.  A transitional house in the city, a soup kitchen, a legal aid clinic, a health clinic, a retreat center that brings city kids to the farm….most operated by people who’s eyes tear as they speak about their missions.

Albert Einstein said:

A human being is part of a whole, called by us the ‘Universe’, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest-a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.  This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us.  Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

I look forward to sharing with you all that I’ve experienced; not with pictures or words, but rather by building bridges between these oases and your congregation.  In joining hands with other churches within our Presbytery, we will widen our circles of compassion, thereby making a huge difference in the mission work of these committed and faithful people.  We can make a big difference in the lives of others.

God’s peace-
