New Beginning

It had been revealed to Simeon by the Holy Spirit

that he would not see death before he had seen

the Lord’s Messiah. With the baby Jesus in his arms

he said,

“…my eyes have seen your salvation…”

Prophet Anna of Phanuel spoke about the child

to all who were looking for redemption.

For the follower of the lectionary, Simeon and Anna kick off the New Year with recognition of the salvation and redemption that God offers in the baby Jesus. It is an honor to see how this good news is proclaimed in 74 places in 74 ways around our Presbytery.

As you exegete the Bible, your congregation, your community, and your heart, I hear church leaders proclaim faithful, exciting and challenging visions for the church. Thank you for being willing to speak the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

I look back on 2005 with gratitude and look forward to 2006 with expectation and joy. The challenges of new churches, transforming churches, fellowship, education, worship, funding, nurturing and encouraging are on going.

Please take the New Year as a new beginning – let it spring forth. Count on the renewing salvation and redemption of our God.

Bill Millen
