Serving, not Starving, in 2007

Ah, it’s that time of year again, the time when so many television commercials focus on “the New You in the New Year”. There are plentiful commercials about losing weight, quitting smoking and finally getting that job of your dreams. As we move into 2007, why not make resolutions that are easier to keep, involve a whole lot less emotional flogging and fewer surreptitious trips to the fridge in the middle of the night?

The resolution to equip ourselves more fully for ministry is one that moves us beyond ourselves to use our gifts to enrich God’s kingdom and share God’s love with those who need it most. Of course, as we serve others in God’s name, we, too, experience the richness and mercy of God’s love for us, even in our imperfect state. Perhaps, as we show mercy to others through service we may learn to forgive ourselves, allow Jesus to enter into our hearts to heal our emotional wounds, and thereby move forward in seeking wholeness in many ways.

The Presbytery of Baltimore seeks to help clergy and laypersons alike in local and Presbytery-wide ministries by offering a bevy of educational offerings in the Winter and Spring of 2007. All offerings are also posted in the calendar section of our homepage: www.baltimorepresbytery.org.

The Presbytery and SAMI present Cultivating Generosity, a stewardship workshop with Fred Milligan on January 27th from 9:30am – 12:30pm at First PC of Howard County, with an optional afternoon session from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Stewardship Committee 101. Fred Milligan is the Associate for Stewardship Education for the PC(USA). Fred and Rita Walters have prepared a brochure for you to learn more about and register for this affordable educational opportunity. Registration Deadline: January 24th, 2007.

Grant Writing Workshops. The new mission paradigm for the Presbytery calls for churches and community organizations to join together in requesting funding grants. The Presbytery is offering Grant Writing Workshops in January through March to assist in the transition. Read the schedule of workshops and please plan to attend one.
