Together

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”

                                                                                              1 Corinthians 12:12

In my new position as Associate of Mission and Justice, I’ve begun to visit churches and Pastors to gather information about mission projects, partnerships and hopes for justice in our world. It has fascinated me; the diversity, creativity and the love that is present in your congregations. What is even more fascinating is how alike we are in doing the good work of The Kingdom.

We were recently given a time to reflect upon the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King. I share with you his words from A Christmas Sermon on Peace (1967):

“It really boils down to this:  that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. This is the way our universe is structured; this is its interrelated quality. We aren’t going to have peace on Earth until we recognize this basic fact of the interrelated structure of all reality.”

We as churches, we as pastors, educators and staff, we as people are, indeed, interrelated. What affects one affects the entire Body. What brings joy or sadness to one brings the same to all. We discuss, we debate, we listen, and we amend. We are partners on this journey. I look forward to working with you to discover the ties that bind us.

May God bless our journey together-

Deb Milcarek
