A New Year, New Staff

Welcome to 2006 – and to the evolving staff.  The new year brings three additional staff to the Presbytery of Baltimore: The Associate for Mission and Justice, the Director of Public Policy, and the Coordinator of Communications.  Together we seek to transform lives, church, and world and to find ways to provide support as you carry on the ministries to which you are called by God.  I hope you will welcome these staff members in the coming weeks.

Associate of Mission and Justice: Deb Milcarek is an elder and member of Havenwood Presbyterian Church and comes from Second Presbyterian Church where she was the Christian Educator.  She also has served as a lobbyist for AFSCME (American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees) and has a Masters in Social Work. Deb has a real passion for both mission and justice and feels that God has been leading her to this position.  In this position, she hopes to further the work of God's Kingdom by focusing on peace, mission and justice within the Baltimore Presbytery.

Director of Public Policy: Julie Erickson is an elder at Woods Memorial where she recently coordinated a four million dollar capital campaign.  She has also volunteered with the Presbytery to promote its positions in Annapolis.  Julie has a masters degree in Liberal Education from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland and is a retired teacher.  She applied for this position because she wants to help get legislation enacted that will provide better for the needs of the disadvantaged, the marginalized, and the neglected elements of our society in accordance with the policy positions of our church.  And in the process our entire nation will be better for it.

Coordinator of CommunicationsJanice Kominski is a member of Christ our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air where she has been employed as their youth director since the spring of 2003.  A 2000 graduate of Duke University, Janice has also interned and worked in a variety of television and print media situations.  In addition to working with the Presbytery, she will be attending Johns Hopkins in a Masters of Counseling degree program.  Janice looks forward to getting to know a greater number of you and hearing your stories.

The Personnel Committee anticipates hiring an Associate of Leadership Development, Education and Youth during the summer of 2006.  In the coming months we will be planning on ways for you to meet the staff and talk about how we can better serve you and your ministries.

Blessings, Peter Nord
