One Great Hour of Sharing

“. . . by accomplishing together in mission,

by the power of the Holy Spirit,

what no one congregation can do alone.”

Nearly fifty years ago, in the devastating aftermath of World War II, a Protestant minister on nationwide radio challenged members of his church to “raise one million dollars in one hour” to support war relief and reconstruction efforts.  The minister’s impassioned plea was a success; and, through the years, Presbyterians and other Christian denominations across the nation have joined together to share God’s love with people in need through “One Great Hour of Sharing.”

Today, this united effort of America’s Christians has an importance far beyond raising funds for a specific cause: “One Great Hour of Sharing” makes a difference in the lives of millions of people in need throughout the world. Your precious gifts support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development that help people find safe refuge, start new lives, and work together to strengthen their families and communities.  Approximately 36 percent of undesignated “One Great Hour of Sharing” gifts received by PC(USA) support the Presbyterian Hunger Program; while the Self-Development of People and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance each receives 32 percent.

As Christians, we recognize that the hope we have in Christ is lived out in our hope for one another.  Through “One Great Hour of Sharing,” we help our sisters and brothers around the world find hope for a brighter future. “One Great hour of Sharing” not only strengthens vitally important relief and rehabilitation work of churches overseas; but it also shows the world the awesome power of Jesus Christ’s love, demonstrated by the efforts of Christians united by a common cause.

Please give generously to “One Great Hour of Sharing.”

Blessings in Jesus Christ’s name,

The Presbytery of Baltimore
