New Faith Communities

Throughout the New Testament, there is an urgency to create new communities of faith – who will lift up the Gospel and rightly perform the sacraments. In an era that no longer values throughtful and questioning dialogue and worship, the Presbyterian witness is needed more than ever. For the past thirty years the Presbytery has planted churches. But this has not always been the model. Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church – Park Avenue created a second worshiping community just north of the City. At first they were one congregation in two locations. In 1982 they became separate congregations. Today Presbytery Fellowships are being nurtured by Northminster and Lakeland Presbyterian Churches. First Presbyterian Church of Howard County is hosting an Urdu speaking service and Northminister and Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church are hosting a Spanish speaking service.

We are engaged in a significant paradigm shift, with an understanding that the development of new faith communitires will best happen when exisiting congregations and the presbytery work in partnership – each bringing its own gifts to the Table. Below you will see five different approaches to creating new faith communities. The presbytery looks forward to being in partnership with its congregations as together, we take up their ministry to those who are not yet part of Christ’s Church.  Click here for details.
