THE PRESBYTERY OF BALTIMORE
NOMINATION FORM
Instructions: This form may be submitted by any individual interested in serving on a Presbytery Committee, or any person or group (Session, Presbytery Committee, etc.) wishing to nominate someone for a Presbytery Committee.
DESCRIPTIONS OF COMMITTEES
Administration oversees the annual review of minutes and rolls of constituent churches; reviews Minutes of Presbytery; reviews Presbytery Manual, initiates amendments and makes recommendations regarding proposed amendments; reviews and makes recommendations to Presbytery on the sale of all property by local churches; is responsible for the historical activities of the Presbytery.
Council is responsible for the general administration of the affairs of the Presbytery, the planning of long-range goals and programs, and the development of strategies and policies for the life and work of the Presbytery.
Education and Congregational Nurture supports educational and other ministries in local churches through training and consultation; responsible for the Resource Center ; liaison to Chesapeake Center .
Evangelism and Church Growth develops and implements strategies for evangelism and church growth; oversees distribution of evangelism and church growth and Vision 2000 funds and recommends changes to budget as funds become available; works to establish new Presbyterian churches, including potential locations, recommending purchase of land and being point of contact until new churches are self-sustaining.
Ministry represents the Presbytery in the process of each church calling a pastor; approves terms of call annually for all clergy; is responsible for all installations and ordinations; administers emergency and other grants for clergy. Each member is asked to fulfill a particular task on the committee (i.e. subcommittee chair) and will be asked to be a committee liaison with a church seeking a pastor.
Mission develops strategies for mission and the mission budget, and oversees the distribution of mission funds; develops ministries to communities of special need; receives applications for Flex Grants and chooses those deemed worthy of support; includes constituent churches in the mission budget who are seeking support, or provides unallocated budgeted funds.
Nominating nominates, for consideration by the Presbytery, officers of the Presbytery, members and chairs of standing committees and the Permanent Judicial Commission, Trustees, commissioners and alternates to General Assembly and Synod.
Peace and Justice is responsible for social witness, public policy advocacy, and peacemaking programs. Works through subcommittees devoted to single issues.
Permanent Judicial Commission is the Presbytery law court.
Preparation for Ministry is charged with the care and supervision of all Candidates and Inquirers for the Ministry in the Presbytery.
Representation reviews the compliance of Presbytery with the Book of Order guidance for inclusiveness.
Stewardship and Mission Interpretation interprets the mission of the Presbytery, Synod, and GA; encourages participation in providing resources for mission, and in the special offering of the church; consults with individual churches regarding their stewardship programs; prepares stewardship and mission materials for the Presbytery.
Trustees are responsible for the property and investments of Presbytery.
Youth serves as support and resource for persons involved in youth ministry; provides opportunities for youth in areas of mission, education, personal development and spiritual growth; publishes youth newsletter; manages program for Youth Advisory Delegates (YADs) and presents nominations to Presbytery for YADs to GA and Synod meetings; sponsors leadership training programs and financial support for participation in National programs.
